ABOUT THE REEL MARATHON

The Reel Marathon is a platform dedicated to highlighting the best films released each year. The main goal is to provide a platform that showcases highly regarded films, leading up to a film being crowned The Reel Marathon champion at the end of the race. The site offers a simple place to access a list of films that film lovers should prioritize.

The Reel Marathon is a system that collects awards data to highlight which films are receiving the most praise across awards bodies and within the industry. There are nearly 60 selected awards bodies that are included as qualifiers. The Reel Marathon tries to capture both the popular and the diverse in their selection of qualifiers.

In order to qualify for The Reel Marathon, a film must receive a total of 6 bids from different qualifiers. In order to receive a bid, a film must receive at least one nomination from the qualifying award body. This can be in any category, and each film can only receive one bid per qualifier. The film that receives the most bids at the end of all scheduled qualifiers is The Reel Marathon champion.

The Reel Marathon awards films that are elite within their craft. It evens the playing field by saying that being great in Visual Effects should be viewed in the same way that being great in Screenwriting might be. The Reel Marathon tries to remove some of the pretentious aspects of most awards shows, while lifting up all film crafts.

Finally, the goal for The Reel Marathon is to bring the best films to all film lovers, not just those who live in huge markets. We appreciate being able to see movies on the big screen, but also recognize that the average film watcher likely doesn't have the budget or schedule to see everything in the theaters. We want to celebrate our love for film by helping people focus on the best within the industry each year, while also helping to connect folks with access to those films.
